   Crayons, deodorants and even DVD’S contain a source of petroleum (crude oil). In fact, petroleum is surprisingly used in over 6000 products that we use almost every day!
         



   An approximate estimate of 1% of gold that is mined is used in the dental industry.

    The largest quality diamond in the world is called the Cullinan diamond, weighing in at roughly 3106.75 carats. It was found in 1905, in a small town called Cullinan east of Pretoria. 
                                                                             
  The famous “Big Hole" in Kimberly is known to be the largest hole excavated by hand.
 However, this claim is now disputed as there are reports that the Jagersfontein hole is actually the biggest hand dug mining hole.


                                                                           

  South Africa is the world’s largest producer of chrome, manganese and platinum. 
                                                                           

     Petroleum jelly, (made from petroleum) and otherwise known as “Vaseline” can be found in the skin care and cosmetic products. It has many beneficial uses such as; treating nappy rash, skin protector and is used as a lubricant for medical purposes.
